How is a VR film different from a normal film?

How is a VR film different from a normal film?

A conventional film presents the frame selected by the filmmaker. A VR film viewed in a headset can surround the audience with recorded or animated imagery and let them look in different directions. That changes the audience’s relationship with a scene, but it does not automatically give them control of the story.

What changes for the production?

The creative team needs to consider action outside a single forward-facing frame. Character placement, sound and timing help establish what matters. For recorded 360 footage, camera positions and crew concealment need planning. An animated environment requires its own assets, scene design and production workflow.

Which approach should we choose?

Start with what being inside the scene adds to the story. A setting, encounter or viewpoint may justify an immersive presentation; another story may work well in a conventional film. High5VR can discuss the audience, viewing devices and deliverables before developing the production scope.
