How do we record clear dialogue during a 360° location shoot?

Clear dialogue in a 360-degree film needs deliberate sound planning. The camera may record the whole room, but it does not automatically capture every voice well. Consider the scene, contributors and background noise before the filming day.

Listen to the location

Check ventilation, traffic, public announcements and nearby activity. Agree a suitable recording period and identify where contributors will speak. A visually impressive room can still be difficult for dialogue.

Plan microphone positions with the scene

The sound setup must suit the action and the camera’s surrounding view. Discuss microphones, recording checks and any equipment that may need concealing or removing in post-production. A camera’s built-in microphone may not be the right choice for the conversation.

Review speech in the intended experience

Check clarity, levels and how audio supports the viewer’s attention. Captions and sound editing may also be required. High5VR can include a suitable recording and post-production plan in the filming scope.
