How do we film workplace training without showing confidential or customer information?

A workplace training film can demonstrate a process without revealing real customer records or commercially sensitive information. The best approach is to prepare the location and demonstration materials before filming. Relying on blur alone can create avoidable editing work and make the lesson harder to follow.

Prepare safe demonstration material

Use approved example names, dummy accounts and fictional records wherever possible. Check computer screens, noticeboards, printed paperwork, packaging and reflective surfaces. Ask the person responsible for the location to identify information that must stay out of shot.

Control what the camera and microphone capture

Plan camera positions around the action that needs to be taught. In 360-degree filming, the full surrounding area needs particular attention because the audience can look away from the main subject. Background conversations and announcements also need to be considered.

Agree review and access arrangements

Nominate a reviewer who understands both the process and the information restrictions. Allow time to inspect the edit before release. Confirm who receives the footage, where approved files will be used and which retention or deletion requirements belong in the production agreement.
