Can VR help hotel reception staff practise guest complaints?

VR can add a repeatable guest complaint scenario to reception training. A learner can practise listening, asking questions and choosing an appropriate next step before discussing the conversation with a trainer. The scenario should reflect the hotel’s service standards and escalation procedures.

Choose one recognisable situation

Start with a specific issue, such as a room not being ready or a guest challenging a charge. Establish what the receptionist knows, which options are available and when a manager should become involved. Avoid a generic script that promises things staff cannot authorise.

Make the response worth discussing

The exercise can present choices, filmed responses or interactive dialogue, depending on scope. Different approaches have different production requirements. Voice recognition and open-ended AI conversations should be specified separately if required; a filmed character does not automatically understand free speech.

Use the debrief to build judgement

Ask the learner what they noticed, how they interpreted the guest’s concern and what they would say next. Discuss tone as well as procedure. Repeating the scene with another approach can make the discussion concrete without turning every conversation into a single right-or-wrong answer.
