Choose one conversation challenge
An exercise might explore introducing a role, gathering information or responding to an unclear question. Keep the objective specific so the scenario can be reviewed against it. A focused conversation is easier to design and assess than a broad promise to simulate every part of patient care.
Build characters with a purpose
An avatar can present information through dialogue and expression. Learners might select a response, answer questions or follow a branching conversation. Spoken interaction is a separate development requirement and should be discussed before deciding how the module will work.
Keep content approval with educators
Clinical educators should supply and review the wording, decisions and explanations. Use fictional characters and avoid real patient details unless a clear need and an appropriate process have been agreed. The application should not generate unreviewed clinical advice during a learning exercise.
Debrief the interaction
Feedback can highlight whether a learner clarified information, acknowledged a concern or asked an appropriate follow-up question. A facilitator can discuss the reasoning and connect it to the organisation's own training. Results should not be presented as a stand-alone judgement of clinical competence.
Support different learners
Consider subtitles, clear text, comfortable pacing and an alternative learning format. Test the interface with people who have not used VR before. Agree any recording or data storage requirements explicitly; they are not necessary for every communication module.
