Can a VR game use hand tracking instead of controllers?

Hand tracking can be considered for a VR game where the intended headset and application support it. The design still needs to account for how players select, grab and release objects. Removing controllers does not automatically make an interaction easier.

Choose actions that suit the input

Try the central gesture early. A simple selection may work differently from repeated precise manipulation. Provide visible feedback so players know when the application has recognised an action.

Test the conditions

Review the intended device, lighting and positions in which hands need to be tracked. Check how the game behaves when tracking is interrupted. Decide whether controllers or another interaction method should also be supported.

Build around the tested result

High5VR can explore a hand-tracked prototype before committing to the full game. The input method, fallback behaviour and target hardware should be agreed as part of development rather than added as a vague accessibility promise.
