A heritage venue has more to offer than decorations alone. Its rooms, objects and local stories could provide the setting for an immersive Christmas film or a commissioned VR experience that invites audiences to explore a particular moment in its history.
Start with a story the venue can support
Work with the curator or relevant specialist to choose a setting, period and narrative. Distinguish documented history from interpretation or fictional storytelling. A charming festive scene is more useful when visitors understand what it represents.
Keep the first experience focused. One room, a small number of objects or a short guided sequence may be enough to create a clear beginning and ending without attempting to reconstruct an entire historical season.
Choose the right production method
A 360° film can capture a prepared physical setting, while interactive VR can involve a modelled environment and defined actions. The appropriate choice depends on the story, budget, access and how the audience will watch.
If actors, narration or music are involved, agree the relevant permissions and intended uses. Plan filming around conservation needs, public access and the venue’s operating arrangements.
Think beyond the first Christmas
Discuss where the finished content will appear and whether it needs later updates. Website use, on-site headsets, promotional extracts and paid distribution should be clearly agreed. Do not assume one delivery automatically includes every channel.
High5VR can help develop a production brief with the venue’s team. This article describes a possible commissioned project, not a confirmed partnership, filming date or historical reconstruction. The most effective starting point is a small story the venue is ready to tell well.
