What first captured Hannah’s imagination about VR?

Hannah’s High5VR series — from our October 2026 conversations about her work

For Hannah, the starting point was the feeling of being somewhere else while still standing in the same place. Experiencing VR in Holland showed her something that a description on a screen could not quite convey: the surroundings could feel present around her.

That amazement became a reason to explore what immersive experiences could offer. Rather than only asking what a viewer would watch, she began thinking about where a viewer might feel they were.

Presence before features

The distinction matters across High5VR’s work. A film can place someone among its characters, while an interactive environment can let someone practise an action. They use immersion for different purposes.

Hannah’s first reaction was emotional rather than a list of specifications. It remains a useful starting question for a project: what do we want someone to experience when they put the headset on?
