A first-time VR player needs to understand the game before a difficult control scheme gets in the way. Design the introduction as part of the experience, with a simple action and clear feedback that prepare the player for what follows.
Teach by doing
Introduce one necessary interaction at a time. Let the player try it without a harsh penalty. Use understandable objects and prompts rather than assuming familiarity with controller buttons or genre conventions.
Keep early movement deliberate
Choose navigation for the intended audience and hardware. Provide a clear way to pause or stop, and consider alternatives where appropriate. A busy opening scene can make it harder to identify the first task.
Test with genuine beginners
Observe people who have not seen the concept. High5VR can use an early prototype to review instructions, pacing and interaction before completing the game’s artwork and level content.
